Free Credit Report and Score

A credit report contains the details of a person’s credit payment history. Within it is identifying information, credit information, public record information, and inquiries relating to other credit grantors. It can be seen by creditors, employers and land lords, in order to assess credibility and more.

Based on the credit reports is a credit score, ranging between 300 and 850; with a “bad” score being below 600, and a “good” score above 720. A high credit score attracts more creditors and lower interest loans, and vice versa. It is essential that it is kept up to date as it can change quite easily on a daily basis.

Experian, Equifax and TransUnion are the three major credit bureaus in the US. All three reports can be ordered at the same time, for free, once a year. Any additional credit reports will cost you. There are also other companies that offer free credit scores and reports using their own tools and resources. They also provide other services and offers, but these tend to just be for a limited period only.

Contrary to what some say, you can’t get a free credit score. If you go to the three credit reporting agencies, they must give your credit report for free, but the credit score will require a fee.

Every consumer is entitled to one free credit report every twelve months. They can be viewed online for up to 30 days. However, people are neglecting to request them because they believe this alone will cost them. There are then millions of identity theft victims every year.
